Short-term rental in Rajasthan

Rajasthan sells heritage. Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Pushkar each carry a strong image – palaces and bazaars, lakes, the blue city, the desert fort, the holy lake and its fair – and guests often want to sleep in a house that feels part of that story: a haveli with a courtyard, a rooftop facing a fort, a rooms-around-a-garden family home.

When travellers come

The cooler months are the main season, with foreign tourists, domestic families and a large destination-wedding market, especially in Udaipur and Jaipur. The desert summer is harsh and quiet for leisure, while the monsoon gives Udaipur's lakes a second, smaller season. Many visitors follow a circuit across several cities, so short stays and flexible check-in times are common. Guests value character and hospitality, but air-conditioning and hot water remain non-negotiable.

Rules to know

The state has introduced the Rajasthan Homestay (Paying Guest House) Scheme, 2026, published by the Department of Tourism. As reported when it was launched, it removes the earlier requirement that the owner or a family member live on the premises. A property may be run by its owner, a lessee or a designated caretaker appointed in line with the guidelines. The ceiling is eight rooms and twenty-four beds, registration is handled by local offices of the Tourism Department, and operators must keep a guest register and report foreign visitors to the authorities.

This makes Rajasthan one of the few states where an owner who lives elsewhere can register a home and have it run on their behalf. The detailed conditions should still be read in the scheme text before applying.
