Our advice for Chennai
Chennai is a practical, business-first city. Its visitors are predominantly here for a purpose: an assignment at a car or electronics plant, a posting on the IT corridor, a consultation at one of the major hospitals, a family function. Owners who meet that purpose efficiently tend to fill their calendar with calm, respectful guests.
Matching districts to needs
- OMR and Sholinganallur: the IT corridor, with long-stay employees and training batches.
- Guindy and the southern industrial belt: engineers and auditors visiting manufacturing sites.
- Nungambakkam, T. Nagar and Adyar: central, well connected, favoured by families and by medical visitors.
- Anna Nagar: residential, quieter, good for relatives visiting for weeks.
Serving medical travellers well
Chennai welcomes patients from across India and from neighbouring countries. Their companions look for proximity to the hospital, lift access, vegetarian-friendly kitchens and a host who responds fast. A listing that describes these things plainly earns more trust than decorative photos.
Climate and building care
Heat and humidity are constant, so air-conditioning must be serviced before summer. Unlike the west coast, the main rains here arrive with the northeast monsoon, roughly between October and December, and some areas are prone to waterlogging. Choose a floor above street level when possible and warn guests about flooded roads during heavy spells.
Daily comfort
Include an inverter, a water purifier, blackout curtains and a work table. Clarify the water source; some buildings rely on tankers in dry periods, and a guest who runs out of water once will not come back.
Rules and neighbours
Many flats are in resident associations with their own visitor policy. Talk to them first. For registration, Tamil Nadu's tourism department manages frameworks for homestays and similar stays, and the Greater Chennai Corporation may require a trade licence depending on your activity; confirm with both before accepting guests. Form C (now called Form III) applies for foreign nationals.
In our experience: Chennai owners succeed with functional, well-maintained flats, flexible monthly rates and very fast responses to guests.
