Short-term rental in Ladakh

Ladakh is a high-altitude desert with a short, intense tourist season. Leh is the centre of activity, from which visitors set out for Pangong, Nubra, Tso Moriri and the monasteries of the Indus valley. Guests include motorcycle and road-trip groups, trekkers and climbers, photographers, families and a steady stream of foreign travellers.

A season shaped by altitude

Most travel happens in the warmer months when the mountain passes are open. Winter is extremely cold, road access shrinks, and only specialised travel, such as frozen-river treks, continues. Because visitors need time to acclimatise, the first nights in Leh matter and many stay several days before heading out. Guests appreciate heating, hot water, a quiet place to rest on arrival and help with permits and transport. Power and water can be irregular in remote areas, so listings should describe facilities honestly to avoid disappointment and complaints.

Rules to know

The Union Territory's Department of Tourism registers tourist units, including homestays, under the Ladakh Tourist Unit Unified Registration Order, 2026, and has held registration camps in districts such as Nubra. We have not been able to verify the detailed conditions of that order, for example regarding owner residence or management by a third party. Owners should confirm the requirements with the Department of Tourism, UT Ladakh, before listing any property.
