Short-term rental in Chandigarh

Chandigarh is a planned city with an unusual rental profile. It serves as the capital of two states, hosts major hospitals and institutions, and acts as the gateway to Shimla, Kasauli and the Himachal hills. Visitors include officials, families attending weddings, patients and their relatives, students and parents, and travellers breaking a long drive north.

A city of sectors

Demand follows purpose more than season: work and medical stays run all year, weddings cluster in the cooler months, and summer weekends see through-traffic heading to the mountains. Guests appreciate the city's calm, green sectors and ask for parking, easy access to the PGI and government offices, and a home-like setting. Large independent houses, the city's signature housing type, are where most hosting happens.

Rules to know

The Chandigarh Administration notified bed and breakfast rules in June 2026. According to reporting on the notification, only residential units on plots of at least 500 square yards qualify; the owner, not a tenant or lessee, must apply and must live on the premises; registration is granted after inspection by a classification committee; and renewal is annual. An earlier draft had suggested residence would not be mandatory, but the notified version reverses that.

In practice, flats and smaller homes are outside the framework, and an owner living elsewhere cannot register. Owners should read the notified rules or ask the Chandigarh Tourism Department directly before listing.
