Our advice for Coimbatore

Coimbatore is an industrial city, nicknamed the Manchester of South India for its textile mills and known for engineering, pumps and motors. Short-stay demand here is driven far more by work and health than by tourism, and owners who accept that will find a steadier market than in many holiday towns.

The main customers

Choosing the product

Serviced apartments with one or two bedrooms, near the airport road, hospital clusters or industrial areas, usually fit best. Guests want air-conditioning, a lift, power backup, fast internet, a proper desk and invoices that suit company expense claims. For patients' families, lift access or a ground floor and food options nearby are important.

Weather

The climate is moderate by Tamil Nadu standards. The Palakkad Gap lets in part of the southwest monsoon, and the northeast monsoon adds rain later in the year. Neither usually disrupts city life for long, but drainage around the building should still be checked.

Watch-outs

Many apartment complexes have association bye-laws on short-term letting; read them before you list, and inform the association.

Tamil Nadu has made registration compulsory under its 2022 guidelines for homestays and B&Bs. A homestay must be run by an owner living in the property (three rooms maximum). A B&B can be managed by an agent formally authorised by the owner (six rooms maximum). An investor's apartment operated by a manager would typically look at the B&B route; confirm with the Department of Tourism.

Our conclusion: in Coimbatore, think corporate and medical first. Reliability and clean paperwork win bookings.
