Our advice for Diveagar
Diveagar is a village in Shrivardhan taluka of Raigad district with a long, quiet beach lined with casuarina trees. It is known for its coconut and betel-nut gardens, its Suvarna Ganesh temple and a strong tradition of families letting rooms in their own homes with home-cooked Konkan meals. For many visitors from Mumbai and Pune, that home-cooked food is half the reason to come.
What guests are really booking
Most arrive by road for a long weekend and want the simple version of the coast: a clean room a short walk from the sand, a veranda, fresh fish in the evening and, around Ganeshotsav, ukadiche modak. Large party villas are less typical here than on busier stretches of the Raigad coast; the village tone is family-oriented and guests often expect it to stay that way.
How to shape your offer
- Several double rooms with attached bathrooms work better than one large dormitory.
- Offer meals, but state clearly what is included and when it is served.
- Provide bicycles or a short list of walks to the fishing settlements nearby, including Bharadkhol.
- Keep a room on the ground floor for grandparents.
Points of caution
Houses near the shore may fall within the Coastal Regulation Zone, which restricts new construction and extensions close to the high-tide line. Check your plot's status before building anything new. Sea bathing can be risky in rough conditions and during the monsoon; give guests written advice and never encourage swimming after dark or after drinking.
Monsoon months are slow on this coast. Use them for repairs, painting and anti-termite treatment rather than discounting heavily.
Registration in Maharashtra
If you host guests commercially, find out whether you need registration under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act. Families letting rooms in their own home may also look at the MTDC Bed and Breakfast / homestay scheme, which gives official recognition. The gram panchayat can tell you which local permissions apply.
Our advice: in Diveagar, the kitchen matters as much as the bedroom. Protect the village atmosphere, cook well and let returning families become your main channel.
Rules in Maharashtra
