Short-term rentals in Green Bay, Wisconsin: permit, inspection and game days
Green Bay permits every rental under 28 days, with a county inspection, a 30-minute local representative and a strict June 30 renewal deadline.

Green Bay's short-term rental market revolves around one address: Lambeau Field. Packers home games, preseason events and the Titletown district create sharp peaks, and big one-off events such as concerts or drafts can lift the whole city. Between them, demand relies on business travel, visiting families and Door County travelers passing through. The stock is mostly modest single-family homes and duplexes, with a premium for anything walkable to the stadium.
A city permit with firm deadlines
Wisconsin's § 66.1014 prevents bans on rentals of seven days or more but lets cities require permits, and Green Bay does. Its ordinance applies to any dwelling rented for less than 28 consecutive days, in every zoning district. To obtain the permit you need:
- an online application (paper is not accepted);
- a Brown County health inspection, on top of the state rules for tourist rooming houses;
- registration with the City Treasurer for room tax;
- proof of insurance and a sample rental agreement covering parking and noise;
- a local representative who can be on site within 30 minutes;
- condominium association approval where relevant.
Permits run from July 1 to June 30, are not transferable and must be renewed by June 30: a missed deadline voids the permit and costs more to restore. Home-sharing, where you remain in the home during the stay, is exempt from the permit but still needs the health inspection.
Taxes
Wisconsin sales tax applies to stays under a month and requires a seller's permit unless a platform handles everything, plus the local room tax registered with the city. Keep your own records: game-day bookings through direct channels are a common blind spot.
Game days and neighbors
Parking and noise are what drive complaints around the stadium. The city asks for a lease that addresses them precisely for that reason. Be explicit about the number of cars, tailgating and quiet hours. Titletown's mixed-use blocks near the stadium draw a different complaint profile than the older residential streets further out, so match your house rules to the block, not a single citywide template.
Our advice
Don't build a plan on eight or ten home games alone. The strongest Green Bay rentals also serve corporate stays, medical visits and families, and treat game weekends as the bonus. Mark the June 30 renewal in every calendar you own. We study every request and tell you honestly whether and how we can help.
